Perhaps more importantly is the common misconception that flood damage is covered by your homeowner’s insurance policy. Taking it straight from the government, the typical homeowner’s policy does not cover flood damage.

The good news is that so long as your community participates in the National Flood Insurance Program, you can purchase flood insurance – even you are in a low-risk area, renting, or operating a business. Policies begin at just $129 per year. Depending on the value of your home, and the value of your contents, the rate increases incrementally.

The most troubling statistic related to flood insurance? Less than 20% of homeowner have flood insurance!

The take away for today – if you live in Pensacola, FL you should have flood insurance! As locals, we are well aware that hurricanes pose a huge risk to our community. A majority of storm damage is attributed to flood waters, not wind damage.
